Many of us think that you can just leave them without washing or cleaning because anyway, you are just going to use it as a container for your dirty clothes.

Well, that’s exactly the reason why you need to wash them regularly along with your dirty clothes.

Even after you have the best laundry baskets and bags you need to clean them at times. In this article, we are going to show you the best ways on how to clean your laundry basket, so you can ensure that both your clothes and laundry basket are clean.

How To Clean Laundry Baskets?

Knowing how to wash laundry baskets is important because this is the place where you store your dirty clothes.

You can’t just leave it as it is and think of it as like a garbage can or bin where you just throw dirty clothes in.

It doesn’t work that way because your laundry basket can easily become a breeding ground for bacteria and germs which can then cause sicknesses to your family.

First off, you need to make sure that you clean it using running water. Apply soap, or if possible strong detergent as you are brushing it off on your faucet or sink.

This depends, though, on the kind of laundry basket you have because there's a variety of laundry baskets; you may have a hard-bound basket or a cloth-like basket. HOUZE has a collection of laundry baskets and bags made of plastic and eco-friendly plants and cloth.

If you have a hard-bound basket, then you can use a pressure washer to get rid of the stains and dirt in it. You can then use gentle flowing water if you have a cloth-like laundry basket.

Wash in running water

Wash in running water

The best way to clean your laundry basket is to wash it in running water. Aside from it being the best way, this is also the first thing you need to do so you can really get rid of all the stains, germs, and grime that might have stuck to it from your clothes.

Simple get your laundry basket and put it below the faucet. Then turn the faucet on. But make sure that it’s not so strong. We recommend you put it on the medium or moderate intensity so that the fabric of the laundry basket won’t be damaged.

Let water run through it for around 10 to 15 minutes and then start using your hands to slowly remove the stains that might still be there. You want to rub it off, but do it gently.

Then get a bar soap and rub it on the fabric of the laundry basket just like what you would do when you are manually washing your clothes.

Do this for around 5 minutes and make sure you cover the entirety of the basket. Then wash it with hand on the faucet until the soap residue is gone.

Brush thoroughly

Another tip we can give you is to thoroughly brush the laundry basket. We recommend that you start with our cleaning brushes with soft bristles so that the laundry basket won’t be damaged.

You can then use a larger one if the texture of your laundry basket is hard or if it’s hard to remove the stains on it. Brush the laundry basket for around 1 minute and then soak it in water for around 10 mins.

This will be enough to moisturize the entire fabric of the basket. After that, you can then brush it again to remove the stains.

Then place it again on running water. Many people take this tip for granted, but little do they know that this is one of the best ways on how to clean laundry baskets.

Soak in soap overnight

Then there is the soaking tip which is the easiest thing to do. However, this only applies if you have a cloth-type laundry basket. The first thing to do here is to get a washing container and fill it up with water.

Don’t fill it up all the way, but just enough to have around 80% of it filled. Once there is already water there, you can then start pouring in liquid soap or detergent. Let that sink in to the bottom of the container.

Then after five minutes, soak your hand in and create a swirling motion so that the liquid soap or detergent will mix in with the water. You can also use powdered washing soap for this.

Once you see that the water is already mixed with the soap and it has already turned whitish, then that is the time you can slowly soak it in the laundry basket. Bring it back and forth and put it down the water then up again.

Do this multiple times so that it can pick up all the soap residue from the water. Then leave it there overnight, for at least 12 to 15 hours.

This will be enough to seep all the soap’s cleaning particles on the laundry. You will then notice that the water has turned a bit murky with some blackish color. This is the dirt, stains, and grime from the laundry basket.

Conclusion

Knowing how to clean laundry baskets is not really that hard as long as you know the right way.

You just need to be creative and use practical methods to ensure that your laundry basket is clean as possible to have a clean and clutter-free home.

Note that these should always be clean so that you can avoid these form being breeding grounds for germs and bacteria which can then cause illnesses and sicknesses to your family members.

Always remember that you need to thoroughly clean them with soap and water. It might sound simple, but this is still the most effective way to keep these essential house things clean and hygienic.
